New Moon in Aries
Themes: Rebirth, Fresh Start, Initiation, Creativity, Fire, Action
The new moon aligning with Mercury moving out of retrograde feels like a deep sigh of relief and a fresh start.
New Moons are a chance to reflect on your past, present, and future. They are a pause in the darkness before the next cycle. In this case: The Past - the two weeks waning towards this new moon, The Present - current new moon chart, and The Future - intention setting for the next cycle.
This Aries season has felt a bit hijacked as the retrograde has had us processing the buried past and taking that energy into things like reading old journals and contacting childhood friends, looking through ancient photo albums, and in general filling up on nostalgia. These activities have more than likely, though, offered a bit of growth, learning, and solace from the more rough astrology weather. With two squares to Pluto and Saturn there has been an aggressive, combative energy to the air. As old issues come up, the instinct has been to react, speak before thinking, and instigate conflict. Aggression and frustration may have built as projects and plans have come up against resistance, and as the general Mercury Retrograde hijinks play out.
The star weather takes many approaches towards your growth and healing, and in the past two weeks it has chosen tension. How has the tension been playing out for you? How do you work with aggression and anger? How might planning and careful thought assist you on this new moon? How can you learn, and even find humor and gentleness in your past conflicts? This new moon is urging you towards forgiveness over the last two weeks, and even the past year. This new moon is the intent you set before your practice. It is the prayer you whisper while creating that spark of fire. Over the past two weeks, amidst the tense and frustrating moments, you have learned things about yourself, about others, and about your path in the world. The lessons have been real, and not always easy, but if you look through the eyes of your higher self, you can see how it has all been a nudge towards your growth.
The chart for this new moon is predominantly fire and earth, with almost no air. Most of the planets of the moment are residing in Aries & Capricorn. These two cardinal signs make a square as they have very different approaches to action and initiation. Right now there are 5 planets in Aries creating the energy to START, push forward, begin projects, speak your truth, create movements, see injustice and do something about it, rise up. Capricorn has this same instinct, except an entirely different approach. With 3 planets in Capricorn there is an added cautiousness to our actions, we want to examine how things feel before we do them, make sure we plan a bit before acting, contemplate our work in the world, and then make the slow and careful steps.
On the alchemical wheel earth and fire find compatibility in that they are both dry - each element on the wheel is described by two key adjectives - with fire you have dry and warm, and earth you have dry and cold. If you are are a fire or earth sign you may notice these qualities in yourself. The dryness - reflected in the drying of fire, and rocks, gems, earth - can extend out to qualities like cynicism, sarcasm, apathy, self-importance, or arrogance. We can also see the benefits - dryness - fire and earth makes for a lasting flame. The two combined keep you warm. Fire creates the change, and clears way for the new - earth makes for a durable and steady burn filled with creature comforts. Each element contributes in some way and we can see when fire and earth work together there is a mobility, an endurace, inspiration, reflection and steadiness.
This is a moment of embodiment. Questions for the present are: How am I feeling in my body right now? Where am I feeling inspiried? Where am I feeling stagnant? If this is all too much, balance the energy out with some air - with new ideas & conversation. Fan the flames with new ways of thinking, talk it out.
Now that Mercury is stationed direct and We have just a few more days of Aries season we can finally feel some forward motion. This is the spark of energy. As you prepare for the next cycle, feel yourself rising up. As the natural world comes to life again so can you. This is the time to really act on your truth. How are you feeling a rebirth? What needs to burn off of you so you can be clear for this next cycle?
Envision yourself rising out of the ashes - what do you do now? How can you be that spark of inspiration for others? Take a moment to journal and write down everything you feel inspired towards. This moon is all about embodied action. Write out the steps you'd like to take and how you can use this fiery energy in the days to come.
Meditation Ideas: Sit down and take a few deep breaths - 6 counts in and 6 counts out. When your body is relaxed, Imagine yourself standing outside a circle with a fire in the middle. Once you are relaxed, have noticed the 4 directions, feel centered - step into the fire. Notice where in your body the fire goes to. Let angers, resentments, dead weight burn and clear off of you, breathe through this as these things clear. Notice where you are holding onto things and let them go. Stand in the fire for as long as you need to until you feel nearly reborn. Rise out of the ashes as a new person, and dust all the rest off.
Happy new moon! xoxoxo
