For the past few weeks, about every night before I go to bed I say something along the lines of "hey, we should wake up early tomorrow and go for a morning walk". And then the morning comes and the cozy bed and the promise of a warm breakfast seems so much more important.
But, with the arrival of our new Christmas pup - Ms. Penelope Rose - we now have a reason to take those morning walks! These days we throw on clothes in the morning and head over to the lake trail nearby, or pack up the car for little morning outings to the parks and beaches.
This particular morning we drove up to a little county park on the northern end of the island. We walked the trails, ran in the grass with sweet Penny, hunted for driftwood, and marveled at how much better a 30 minute walk in the morning can make you feel.
And I'm not quite sure how, but I seem to have manifested my dream dog. Penelope is a beautiful balance of mellow, playful, and sweet. She sleeps at the edge of our bed every night and greets us with kisses and a wagging tail in the morning. A 5 year old shelter keeshond/border collie mix, she's both energetic and attentive, and I'm amazed at how quickly she's taken to us and our home.
On a different note ... did I mention the boy makes the most delicious Huevos Rancheros? Seriously where did he come from.
